Since 1854 the monks of the Cistercian Abbey of Wettingen-Mehrerau have worked to establish the Christian Church and spread the Word of God throughout the Lake Constance area and beyond. Going back to the original founding of the monastery in 109 by Benedictine monks from nearby Konstanz, the monastic tradition in Bregenz extends back over 900 years. A lot has changed over the past centuries, but one thing has remained: the hope and the belief that the teachings of Jesus Christ will influence us and the rest of the world. Today the monastery enjoys a foresighted attitude – a fact evident from the monks themselves, the congregation and the people working there. It is very much a living establishment, for locals and visitors alike.
For groups, guided tours of the monastery can be organised by prior arrangement.
